The film introduces adult versions of the Phogat sisters, portrayed by Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra, with Zaira Wasim and Suhani Bhatnagar playing their younger counterparts. Sakshi Tanwar takes on the role of their mother, and Aparshakti Khurana portrays the adult version of their cousin, Ritvik Sahore his younger version.




Development and Production:

Nitesh Tiwari initiated the film's development in 2013, commencing scriptwriting. Aamir Khan, who had previously interviewed the Phogat sisters on his show Satyamev Jayate in 2014, later joined the project as the lead actor and producer. The film's principal photography started in September 2015 in Punjab, with Satyajit Pande as the cinematographer and Ballu Saluja as the editor. Pritam composed the background music and soundtrack, featuring lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya. Kripa Shankar Patel Bishnoi, a coach with the Indian women's wrestling team, trained Khan and the cast for the wrestling sequences.


Critical Acclaim and Achievements:

"Dangal" received widespread acclaim for its honest portrayal of a real-life story and Aamir Khan's remarkable performance. Premiering in North America on December 21, 2016, the film won several awards, including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actor (Khan) at the 62nd Filmfare Awards. At the 64th National Film Awards, Zaira Wasim received the Best Supporting Actress award. The film also earned international recognition, winning the Best Asian Film award at Australia's AACTA Awards and accolades from China's Douban Film Awards.

The film remains a landmark in Indian cinema, surpassing the ₹2000 crore mark by some estimates.
