In the backdrop of 1956 France, a priest's brutal murder sparks an investigation by Sister Irene, leading her once again into a confrontation with a formidable evil.

"The Nun II," also known as "The Nun: Chapter Two," is a 2023 American gothic supernatural horror film directed by Michael Chaves. The screenplay, credited to Ian Goldberg, Richard Naing, and Akela Cooper, stems from a story crafted by Cooper. As the eighth installment in The Conjuring Universe franchise and a sequel to "The Nun" (2018), the film features a cast including Taissa Farmiga, Jonas Bloquet, Bonnie Aarons, Storm Reid, and Anna Popplewell, with Peter Safran and James Wan returning as producers.

Plot Summary: "The Nun II"

Set in 1956, Father Noiret and Jacques go about their daily duties in the Tarascon church in France. However, a disturbance leads to a horrifying incident where Noiret is lifted, set on fire, and burned to death, leaving Jacques traumatized.

Following the events at Saint Cartha's monastery, Sister Irene now serves in an Italian convent. Maurice, a character from the first film, works in a French boarding school, where Irene receives a vision urging her to save him. Dispatched by the Cardinal to investigate demonic occurrences attributed to Valak, Irene travels to Tarascon with Sister Debra, a young novice. They encounter a series of disturbing events, including a possessed Maurice and the malevolent presence of Valak.




The plot unfolds with Irene and Debra delving into the mysteries surrounding Valak and a powerful relic associated with St. Lucy, a martyr. Their journey takes them to a former monastery-turned-winery, presently a boarding school, where the demonic force is intent on obtaining the relic.

As Irene and Debra face off against a possessed Maurice, they uncover the significance of the mosaic goat in the chapel, leading to a supernatural confrontation. Using the relic, Irene discovers her lineage as a descendant of St. Lucy, endowed with the power to combat Valak. Through prayer and belief, they thwart the demonic entity, sending it back to Hell.
  


"The Nun II" premiered at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on July 9, 2023, and was subsequently released in the United States on September 8, 2023, by Warner Bros. Pictures. The film has achieved global success, grossing $233 million worldwide, and while it received mixed reviews from critics, it is generally acknowledged as an improvement over its predecessor.
